Celebrating 30 years of giving in regional Australia.

Regional health insurer Westfund Health has officially kicked off its 2015 Christmas Appeal, marking the 30th anniversary of the regional initiative that supports local charities ahead of Christmas.

Westfund now operates 12 Care Centres in regional Queensland and NSW, including Mackay. To mark the 30th anniversary of Westfund’s charity initiative, the Mackay Care Centre has chosen the Grapevine Group and Mackay Women’s Centre as this year’s appeal recipients.

The Annual Westfund Christmas Appeal is all about harnessing community spirit and generosity to collect non-perishable foods, toys and other donations for local charities. Throughout November and December, Westfund’s Care Centres are accepting donations, which are then distributed to the chosen local charities. According to Corinna Cotter, Westfund Regional Manager, the Mackay Care Centre has donated $500 to the Grapevine Group and will be sending toys and other donations to the Mackay Women’s Centre.

“We are very proud to be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Christmas Appeal. Christmas should be about gathering with family and friends and a time for giving and celebration. However, for many people Christmas is a time of struggle and hardship. We are very community focused so it makes sense to encourage others to help us give back to local charities that already do so much in our community,” said Ms Cotter. “All Westfund wants for Christmas is for everyone to take the time to think about how they can support our appeal and how they can make Christmas easier for those less fortunate. It is not about the size of the donation, but the act of giving.”

Since 1985, Westfund has raised over $500,000 for local charities. The Westfund Annual Christmas Appeal will continue throughout December at the Mackay Care Centres located at 24 Sydney Street and Caneland Central (next to ANZ Bank).
